Maki-e is a traditional Japanese paint technique developed over a millennia ago where lacquer is applied to surfaces and pure gold or silver paint is mixed in for flat or raised ornamentation. Mosaics are created from tiny abalone shell tiles often accented with the same gold or silver paint.
In these regal earrings, silver gray pearls have been decorated Maki-e style using abalone shell tiles and 24k gold paint. Rich pink cabochon tourmalines (2.43ct) and sparkling diamonds (.12ct) give light and warmth to the silver and grays in the pearls. The gold has been given a soft, parchment-like texture making it feel almost velvety to the touch. 18K gold ear wires. One-of-a-kind.
Handmade using recycled 18k & 22k yellow gold, Brazilian tourmalines, Canadian🍁 diamonds and cultured 10x12mm Tahitian pearls.
