In the ancient world, peridot (then called topazios) was mined on St John's Island, in the Red Sea, beginning around 300 B.C. According to myth and legend, peridot has been prized since the earliest civilizations for its claimed protective powers to drive away fears and nightmares. It is also one of the few gemstones that occur in only one color: an olive green. Peridot is the birthstone for the month of August.
The oversize granulation found on Viking buckles was the inspiration for the mine charms. Each charm is unique, the granulation and gemstone combination carefully considered to compliment and highlight the central gem. Cabochons are selected because of their soft glow.
Glowing green peridot is the star of this "mine" shaped charm, highlighted by oversize platinum granules interspersed with neon pink spinel. Wear as a pendant or slide on to one of our leather wraps, mix and match to create your own story. (Black & red intarsia leather wrap and additional charms sold separately.)
