I love unusual gemstones and minerals - a legacy of my geologist father - and these vivid green malachite stalactite studs are special. Malachite stalactites grow from the ceiling in mine voids or small cave-like spaces in copper ore deposits and while small, are spectacular. Distinct growth bands in differing shades of green, rather like tree rings, are visible in cross section - you can see them in these studs. They are found in only a few places in the world, with these being from Guandong, China, from a mine that produces striking chatoyant or "Cat's Eye" malachite stalactites. You can see the beautiful cat's eye shimmer as the studs move in the light.
I have just two pairs of these stalactite slices and decided to set this pair with a discreet diamonds sparkle, encircled with granulation in warm high karat gold to highlight the green shimmer. These little color bursts are truly versatile; they go with everything and everyone. Perfect with summer shorts and a linen shirt, crisp button down, your favorite cashmere sweater or dress. Length approximately 10mm, width 10mm (L .4in W .4in).
Made from recycled 18k and 22k yellow gold, malachite stalactites from Guandong, China (10.51ctw) and Canadian diamonds (VS G-H, .13ctw).
One-of-two-of-a-kind.
