A dainty Maki-e pearl is adorned with a miniature bejeweled star cap that mirrors the decorative 24 karat gold star painted on the lower half. Matte platinum granules mirror the soft silver tones in the pearl, whilst the rich, warm orange zircon set in the star highlight the abalone tile at it's base.
Maki-e is a traditional Japanese painting technique developed over a millennia ago where lacquer is applied to surfaces and a pure gold or silver paint is mixed in for a flat or a raised ornamentation. Decorative mosaics are created from tiny abalone shell tiles, often accented with the same gold or silver paint. Many of the designs on the pearls are unique, giving a truly one-of-a-kind charm.
