A dainty Maki-e pearl is adorned with a miniature bejeweled star cap. Deep purple red Anthill garnets complement the decorative 24 karat gold frieze painted on the lower half of the pearl, whilst the matte platinum granules mirror its soft silver tones.
Maki-e is a traditional Japanese painting technique developed over a millennia ago where lacquer is applied to surfaces and a pure gold or silver paint is mixed in for a flat or a raised ornamentation. Decorative mosaics are created from tiny abalone shell tiles, often accented with the same gold or silver paint. Many of the designs on the pearls are unique, giving a truly one-of-a-kind charm.
