One-of-a-kind hand carved and gilded rock crystal pendant depicting the Eye of Horus with a rhodolite garnet tear (.ct). The Eye of Horus, also known as wadjet, wedjat, or ujat (meaning 'whole one') is an ancient Egyptian symbol of protection, royal power, health, healing and restoration.
Horus, the god of the sky, was the son of Osiris, and was usually depicted as a falcon. His eyes were said to be the sun and the moon. An ancient myth describes a battle between Horus and Seth after Osiris's death, in which Seth gouged out one of Horus's eyes. Thoth magically restored the eye, and Horus made a gift of it to Osiris to help him rule the netherworld. Osiris ate the eye and was restored to life and as a result the Eye of Horus became a powerful and enduring symbol of life and resurrection, healing and protection.
