One-of-a-kind hand carved rock crystal charm of a heron delicately balanced on one leg. This carving is based on a gem held by the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston from the classical Greek period 450-425 BC, after the manner of Dexamenos of Chios, recognized as one of the great gem carvers of antiquity. Dexamenos was noted for the detail and delicacy of his work, with only four signed gems having survived to this day. Other gems have been assigned to him because of their distinctive style and detail.
