One-of-a-kind hand carved and gilded rock crystal amulet charm depicting a scorpion inspired by the renowned Signet Ring of Horemheb, the last Pharaoh of Egypt's 18th Dynasty. His solid gold signet ring is exceptional for its size and the quality of workmanship. It is especially known for the four-sided rectangular rotating bezel, each side engraved with a crocodile, scorpion, lion and coronation name respectively. The scorpion inspired the one depicted on this charm. The size of the ring indicates that it wasn't designed to be worn, rather it served as a seal for applying official stamps, hence the engravings. The ring is held at the Musee du Louvre.

Scorpions were believed to have apotropaic qualities, which is a rather long way of saying they were believed to hold magical powers to turn away bad luck and evil influences, so they were frequently used in amulets and other good luck charms.
